Role: Founder & CEO
Welcome to inPulse! This is our weekly spotlight series where we check in with team members across inWorks LLC to share what’s energizing their work, celebrate milestones, and surface upcoming events or shoutouts. It’s a casual, story-driven way to stay connected and inspired by the voices that make our team thrive.
This week, we’re catching up with Ilya, our leader and Chief Executive Officer, to hear what’s on the horizon, what’s been meaningful lately, and what’s keeping the momentum going.
Project Spotlight: Launching homeIT
There are many projects to celebrate across the company, but each one needs its moment in the spotlight.
As part of its ongoing commitment to innovation and growth, the company is working on getting its homeIT initiative off the ground—a project designed to address everyday technology challenges for individuals while enhancing digital security in an increasingly complex cybersecurity landscape.
Ilya sees strong potential in this offering, not only as a valuable service for users but also as a strategic opportunity to expand into a new market. With ambitious plans to scale the solution significantly, this initial rollout will serve as a critical test of both the concept and the company’s ability to adapt and grow.
Celebrating The Small Wins
There are small wins in every work week. The challenge is learning to recognize them.
After facing an unexplained advertising block on the inWorks Facebook page, Ilya recently achieved a breakthrough. Despite previous unsuccessful attempts to resolve the issue, a new support request submitted this week led to a swift resolution—restoring the company’s ability to run Facebook ads.
This development opens up valuable opportunities to promote the homeIT solution to a broader audience and connect with individuals who could benefit from its services. Additionally, the team is exploring the potential of using Facebook Marketplace to assist a client with an upcoming office wind-down project, pending further due diligence.
Lessons in Building a Resilient Business
As someone who has literally been here since the beginning of the company, Ilya’s role has evolved - and so have his motivations.
When Ilya first launched inWorks LLC in 2010, the focus was squarely on exploring and building innovative solutions using Microsoft technologies—a pursuit driven by pure technical passion. However, it soon became clear (the hard way) that technical expertise alone wasn’t enough to sustain and grow a successful business. The challenges of managing finances, operations, and scalability revealed the need for a more holistic approach.
This realization essentially led to the creation of startWorks, a platform designed to provide both robust technology and financial solutions to whoever needs it. Its mission: to help entrepreneurs avoid building fragile business systems that falter under growth or operational strain, and instead create resilient foundations that support long-term success.
Upcoming Events
Ilya is looking forward to Awakening the Sacred Sound and Flame: Mayan Fire Ceremony at the Longview Farm on November 15th. The ceremony is open to everyone and initiates the new Mayan Calendar year. The event will take place in three parts: the sound ceremony led by Shaman Harold E. Smith, the fire ceremony led by Mayan spiritual guide Genaro Jacinto, and the community potluck to close.
Techniques for Tackling the Uninspiring
While driven by a passion for technology, Ilya admits that motivation wanes when faced with routine business tasks—such as timesheets, taxes, and other administrative responsibilities. Recognizing that these “non-tech” duties are essential for long-term success, he has developed personal strategies to overcome resistance and stay productive.
One technique involves visualizing the task as already completed, which helps maintain focus on the outcome rather than the process. Another, more advanced method, is to avoid “meta-thinking”—the habit of mentally resisting or complaining about a task. By approaching these tasks mindlessly, without reinforcing negative associations, our CEO has found it easier to move through them with less internal friction.
Though this approach has its nuances and everyone is wired differently, this has proven to be a powerful tool for improving both productivity and overall quality of life for Ilya.
“Train yourself not to think about things that cause internal resistance, and you’ll improve your quality of life. There are some side-effects to this approach that I recently discovered that aren’t always helpful, but those only come into play if you’ve truly mastered this technique. That’s a 300-level course topic for another time.” ~ Ilya
